2,000 Acres for IT Earmarked by Punjab

Punjab Infotech, an IT industry promotion agency of the state government, has earmarked around 2,000 acres across Punjab to attract IT investment in the State.

At present the hub of the IT industry in Punjab is the town of Mohali. In a bid to position Punjab as a competitive and investor-friendly destination as well as developing the overall IT infrastructure in the State, Punjab Infotech has proactively identified new land.

The Punjab government intends to set up IT parks / SEZ projects in Ropar (280 acres) near the proposed IIT, Kapurthala (50 acres), Sneta (50 acres), Rail Majra (12 acres), and also mixed use industrial park including IT and knowledge park at Rajpura spread over 1,276 acres.

“We have initiated land acquisition for the Rajpura IT and Knowledge park and expect that partial completion of Phase 1 development would be ready by April 2011. Similarly we have initiated process to develop IT infrastructure at Kaputhala, Ropar, Railmajra and Sneta. We would be also meeting potential investors very soon”, said Punjab Infotech MD R K Verma said.
