Indian Government Approves 9 Solar Projects

The Indian Government has approved 9 solar power projects with capacities of 8.8 Mw to be built in Haryana under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. The projects will be built by independent power producers and will be commissioned by September 2011.

The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency had called for proposals from independent power producers for solar power generation plants with capacities between 100 Kw and 2 Mw, said Haryana Power Minister Mahender Partap Singh.

The Minister said two projects of 100 Kw Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic had been commissioned at M/s Omax Auto Ltd, Manesar and Daruhera units worth of Rs 260 lakh each. The Ministry of New Renewable Energy will provide financial assistance of Rs 150 lakh for these projects. Another Solar Photovoltaic project of 50 Kw has been commissioned at Retreat, Teri, Gawal Pahari and Gurgaon.

In addition to the solar projects other plants have been set up including a hydro project of 6 Mw commissioned at Dadupur, Yamuna Nagar, a hydro plant of 2 Mw commissioned at Gogripur, Karnal and a 1 Mw distillery effluents-based power project has been commissioned at M/s Ashoka Distilleries, Hathin, district Palwal. Three biomass co-generation projects of 2.5 Mw capacity worth Rs 11.25 crore are also being set up and are likely to be commissioned by the end of the current financial year.
