India’s top vehicle manufacturers showed a strong growth in sales during the last month as new models, the easy availability of low-cost loans and a favourable season all helped in attracting customers to showrooms.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd.,Hero Honda Motors Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and the Indian units of Hyundai Motor Co., Ford Motor Co., Toyota MotorCorp., General Motors Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. on all had higher sales for the month of August. Tata Motors also reported a 32% rise in total vehicle sales to 65,938, up from 49,810 the previous year. Exports also doubled to more than 5,157 vehicles.

Vehicle manufacturers in India have been able to capitalise on a optimistic economy, a increase in disposable income by introducing several new vehicles, as well as the normality of the monsoon rains, which was considered a key factor as a driver of rural income.

The larger vehicle manufacturers have said that demand is currently very strong, and manufacturers will now start to look at the festive season which starts in October, and is expected to bring in more sales.
