Six New Agreements Signed Between India and USA

Six agreements have been signed between USA and India to help government-to-government relations and ultimately improve economic performance in both countries. The six agreements are:

• Agreement to establish a joint Clean Energy Research and Development Centre which will be receive funding of $50 million by both sides over five years to complete joint research in solar, bio fuels and energy efficiency.

• An agreement on technical cooperation to study and forecast India’s annual monsoon rains.

• A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on shale gas resources where technological know-how from USA will be used to calculate shale gas resources in India.

• A MOU for a Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership. The USA will assist India’s plans for a nuclear centre which will promote nuclear security and tackle threats of nuclear terrorism.

• A MOU to create India-US Energy Cooperation Programme which will utilise private sector knowledge and resources to address clean energy-related issues in both countries.

• MOU on establishing and operating a Global Disease Detection Centre in India to set up a laboratory in New Delhi to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

The agreements were signed by dignitaries from both countries today during US President Barack Obama’s three-day visit to India.
