The Indian Commerce and Industry Minister, Anand Sharma has highlighted the importance of advancing bilateral trade between India and Ghana, whilst on his visit to the African nation. Mr Sharma is currently in Ghana in order to discuss issues related to trade and investments.

The Minister met with the President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. John Evans Atta Mills and the Trade and Industry Minister of Ghana, Ms Hanna Tetteh to discuss how bilateral trade relations could be enhanced.

One key area emphasized was India’s Partnership with Ghana in the fertiliser, petroleum and gas sector on the back of the recent oil and gas found in Ghana. Mr Sharma said there is a need for a gas and supply commitment by 2014 for the $1 bn ammonia-urea fertiliser plant in Ghana. An MoU has already been signed for this between both countries. Other areas discussed were the availability of land, potable water and infrastructure development for the project.
